Gonna go quiet after my queue runs out

July 16, 2017 at 8:27 am (Uncategorized) (, )

I’ve got a couple of days of stuff queued but I need to hide from tumblr and any other areas of the internet where I’m likely to see anything about what the assholes at Marvel Studios are going to do to Loki next. I knew I’d have to bail eventually. Prolly should have done it a month ago but I was weak.

I wrote a rant about what they’re going to do to him in Infinity Wars, and also how despicable it is the way the glossy journalists keep verbally fellating Kevin Feige as a “visionary” instead of as an “incompetent executive who pretends to be a geek even though he’s never read a comic book or seen even one Marvel movie”. I decided not to post it. You guys have heard enough of this from me already.

There’s a bunch of stuff in my queue about everything wrong with post-season-1-Supergirl too. And that show was recced to me to comfort me for having my previous fictional crush, Thor, turned into Prince Joffrey grown up (except less intelligent and kind). They didn’t turn Kara evil, at least, just turned her into a doormat. I gritted my teeth through the entire second season in gratitude for living canon lesbians, but I just can’t do it anymore. I can’t keep staying in abusive relationships with toxic canons.

I’m gonna create canons of my own now. They’ll be full of anger. Glorious, righteous anger, hot enough to incinerate the sludge the major studios are trying to drown the entire world in.

And I will not punish my greatest creation for his greatness.

Time for chocolate and then bed.

A lot of chocolate.

OK. I just flooded you guys with everything Marvel-related from my queue.

Now I’m going to try, again, to kick this addiction. Just like the “fans are too entitled how dare you criticize our lords and masters” whiners are always saying my sort should.

What the hell do I need more of their damn movies for anyway? I already stole Loki from them. (We accidentally left behind one of his illusory doppelgangers during my rescue of him, that’s what they keep putting in movies since. Don’t worry, the real Loki is under my protection and safe from those bastards.)

I’ll finish Deep Freeze, of course. That one’s basically just me giving Loki a 200K-word hug anyway. And I’m looking forward to upcoming scenes too much not to continue with it.

Now to find some fannish methadone. Wonder what’s hot in anime these days.

@pedeka If you like to read A LOT, look at the Wheel of Time books for a small fandom with literally TONS of material. The women are strong, the men are hot, there’s magic and enough clothing description that you’d swear you were on Ao3.

Thanks, I’ll check those out!

I just found out what steganography is (hiding a secret message in a jpg) and now I’m annoyed that I have no one to send secret messages to and no reason to do so.

I mean, what am I going to hide? “My so-called original character I’m working on is actually Loki”? That’s not a secret.

I need to start doing shady things so I’ll have a reason to use sneaky technology.

My cat Luna refuses to sit on laps, but she likes to be petted for a long time. I have to stroke her for as much as a solid hour sometimes. And since she won’t sit on my lap, that usually means she’s on a cushion on the floor beside my favorite chair.

I’ve spent so much time stroking Luna this week that today my left shoulder is sore.

I have a repetitive petting injury.

I guess you could call it re-PET-itive.

Ancient Aliens narrator: This woman went into a mostly unexplored underground archaeological tunnel and says she saw giant men who were alive down there. We’re going to stop this story without telling you if she interacted with them or if anyone ever went back down there to look for them.
Giorgio A. Tsoukalos: You have to wonder if this has something to do with aliens!
Me: …Actually, I’ve already got a lot to wonder about without that.

I swear I will choke the next bitch who says this to me.

June 24, 2017 at 2:04 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

Me at 21, with a job, a spouse and a mortgage: I’m 21.
30-year-old co-worker: You’re just a baby! *proceeds to brag about how much management experience she has, greatly impressing me with her maturity*
Me at 30: I’m 30.
The 40something-year-old Woman I’m On A Date With: Oh, you’re still a baby.
Me: …And you’re on a date with me. What does that say about you?
Me at 47, post-menopause: I’m middle-aged.
My aunt, who is my mother’s age: You’re a KID!
Me in 2060: I’m 90.
Fellow nursing home occupant who is 95: You’re an infant!

So I’m doing a tally of all of my major fandoms, and of all of them, so far only ONE (Eroica) has failed to utterly and irreparably break my heart.

I guess I need a new fandom. That will fix everything.

Loki and Tony Stark keep breaking my heart. Based on past events, I can only assume that the next time we see Dr. Strange, either someone will do something insanely horrible to him and the canon will excuse it, or he’ll inexplicably turn evil and the canon will excuse it.

I really really need to find some other fandoms. My heart can’t take more of this. I mean, I’ll still write Lokific cuz I gotta, but I really need some other stuff in my head.

@shirena:

Do you want suggestions? And if so, anything more specific than “canon that isn’t constantly shitting on the best people in it?”

Suggestions would be cool, actually. Preferably with a fantastic element (sci-fi, fantasy, superheroes, vampires, etc) and angst. Thanks. ^-^

@mosellegreen You may have encountered it before, but my first thought is Tamora Pierce’s work. It’s definitely fucked up about race in places, especially in the earlier stuff, but I love it anyway. I’m not sure I’d call it angsty, exactly, but it doesn’t shy away from hard stuff. I’m happy to give more details, but spoilers. I can also do in-depth CNs if you want. I’ve read most of her work at least five times. For you, just based on instinct, I’d say you’d like the Circle of Magic quartet and sequels best. I think you’ll fucking love Briar Moss especially. They’re about a group of four orphaned ten year olds in a Middle East like fantasy setting. I very strongly recommend reading that series in order. The first one is called Sandry’s Book in the US and The Magic in the Weaving in the UK. They’re YA novels. They have full cast audiobooks, which are A+++ if you’re into that sort of thing. She also writes a series based primarily in a fictional country called Tortall in a fictional world without its own name that are your traditional knights and horses fantasy fare with lady protags. The Protector of the Small quartet is my favorite (it’s about an unflappable young woman who gets things done with Hard Work and Stubbornness), with the Immortals quartet coming in second, but if you like a lot of magic you might prefer Immortals. The Song of the Lioness quartet was written first, and it’s kind of interesting to see how the world has changed over time, and you definitely get context for the other stories, but they aren’t my favorite and they have some screwed up “romantic” stalking elements. The Hunt Records are set first in the in-universe chronology, but I wouldn’t read those first either. Her last several books have been extremely disappointing (Mastiff and Battle Magic were terrible on first read, and Melting Stones has some poorly written elements on a fifth read with someone pointing them out. YMMV, obviously.) but I love her older stuff so much I read almost all of it at least once a year.

Gods, you’d think as someone who’s been reading fantasy for almost two decades now I’d have more ideas, but it’s so hard to find stuff that doesn’t just constantly make everything worse all the time, which makes me stop reading.

Dude. Thank you.

It’s weird: just yesterday, someone recced a Tamora Pierce novel to me in a different context. Clearly this is an omen. I will check her out.

Thanks!
